THE ART OF CREATING A TRUTHFUL CHARACTER
Acting classes for actors, filmmakers and writers (all levels welcome) with Eva Dorrepaal
In this course you will learn how to develop a fascinating, multi-layered, living and breathing character, from the inside out. We will work on physical, psychological, energetic and emotional layers.
Eva will share techniques and insights she gathered during her film and stage career in Europe and the United States. She’ll guide you through a variety of exercises, techniques and explorations to find the character within you - deepened by humanity and full of hope, desire, habit and flaw.
Participants will develop a character in class, learn how to stay true to it, and practice following the character’s instincts and drives.
No memorization needed, because we use acting exercises and improvisation. In addition to actors, this course is useful for writers, filmmakers and directors who want to understand their characters - as well as their actors - better.
Students will receive a complimentary downloadable video of the last class.
This workshop offers a safe space where you can develop your imagination and get more in touch with your creative instincts.

About Eva Dorrepaal:
Eva Dorrepaal’s body of work includes roles in more than 45 independent films that have showcased in more than 50 film festivals - including Cannes, Toronto and Sundance.
Eva’s most noted work has been in collaboration with Dutch director Edwin Brienen. Some of the many complex characters she portrayed include blind, murderous, confused, desperate, intelligent, philosophical, insane and glamorous women.
In the theater, Eva has written and performed three staged plays: Mata Hari, Almost Mata Hari - Lovers, Letters and Killers, and Raising a Revolutionary.
Additionally, Eva has appeared in numerous European television programs.
After studying acting and directing in the Netherlands, Eva was invited to former Yugoslavia to perform and train with the renowned KPGT theater group, during the Serbo-Croatian war.
In the late 1990's, she moved to New York, where she continues to make films with independent filmmakers including Jonathan Caouette, Jorge Torres-Torres, and Onur Tukel (Catfight, Black Magic for White Boys, Scenes from an Empty Church during a Pandemic).
Although Eva studied method acting for over a decade with Susan Batson, she also loves the Michael Chekhov technique, applies common sense, utilizes the director’s input and above all, trusts her own intuition.
This summer she is in Savannah, performing Rachael Faucett (the mother of Alexander Hamilton) in her one-woman-show Raising a Revolutionary at the Davenport House Museum:
