Coastal Rock Productions Presents:

Thelma and the Sleaze, Beneath Trees, Susanna Kennedy
at Sentient Bean

Thelma and the Sleaze is an independent all-female, queer southern rock band from Nashville, Tennessee. The groupis thebrainchild of lead vocalist and guitar player Lauren "LG" Gilbert and features an evolving cast of A-team players to back her up for an unforgettable live experience. LG is the embodiment of hustle. As the driving force behind Thelma and The Sleaze, she is the songwriter, the visionary, the take-no-shit-from-anyone front woman that is single handedly keeping rock and roll alive. Thelma andThe Sleaze has been touring the US for years building a legion of fans, affectionately called her creepers. The growing social media presence, the hit podcast, the features with Yamaha Guitars are really all the result of her incredible songwriting, visceral guitar playing, and the guts to deliver on her vision of what Rock and Roll should be. LG has also launched two successful seasons of their Podcast “Queen of Shit Mountain”. Each episode features legendary musicians such as Tanya Tucker, Brittany Howard, Juliana Hatfield, Kate Pierson, Lori Barber, Patty Schemel, Mary Ramirez and Margo Price.

Susanna Kennedy, who was born in Savannah, Georgia, later moved to Costa Rica with her family as a young child where they pursued missionary work. She grew up singing in church choirs, learning how to play the classical violin, and belting out musical numbers while washing the dishes with her older sister. Kennedy and her family returned to Savannah when she was in her early 20’s, and she has lived there ever since, finding a home in the music community it has to offer. As an indie/folk singer-songwriter, she enjoys focusing the majority of her creative energy on emotionally evocative melodies and lyrics, spurred on by her belief that music exists as a conduit for emotions that words alone cannot express.

There’s something about lo-fi, gritty riffs and grooves that really gets you going. Beneath Trees brings that sensation out with their noisy, experimental, psychedelic two piece. With roots in grunge and punk, the duo has brought the ruckus with their brand of psych-y garage rock since 2014. The band has been described as "a controlled cacophony of infectious, crunchy, psych-infused rock" by Amanda Mack of The Probe.   In the band’s most recent singles “Bring Out Your Dead” and “Spores”, there is a noticeable integration of noisy experimental sounds and psychedelica. The band is currently based in Savannah, with continued plans to tour and get loud throughout the US.
